US agency creates Jones Act enforcement division

CBP's Office of Field Operations has created the National Jones Act Division of Enforcement, which has a mission to “assist CBP and industry partners on issues concerning coastwise trade, with the goal of being a clearinghouse for all coastwise trade issues,” according to a July 15 notice from Vernon Foret, director of the Area Port of New Orleans.

Pirate attacks drop to 21-year low in H1 2016: IMB

The number of piracy attacks dropped to a 21-year low in the first half of 2016 according to watchdog the International Maritime Bureau (IMB). The number of piracy incidents worldwide reported to the IMB in the first half of the year was 98 compared to 134 in the same period last year. It was also the lowest number of attacks reported in the first six months of the year since 1995.

Hybrid shunting locomotive launched at Port of Hamburg

Metrans has begun operating its first new hybrid shunting locomotives at the Port of Hamburg. The Prima H3 units produce 50 per cent less C02 compared to older shunting units, says Metrans. The quantity of harmful gases, like nitrogen dioxide, will be reduced by up to 70 per cent.
